Car buyers can be extended too far in many cities

Car buyers can be extended too far in many cities
A new study shows that the average household in 24 of the 25 largest cities in America cannot afford to pay for the average price of a new car or truck.

"Just because you don't manage the monthly payment means that you have a drive with $30,000 or consume such a huge percentage of your salary, $40,000 should be", said Mike Sante, editor-in-Chief of Interest.com. "Many people give money for a car payment that could save her."

For the second year in a row, Interest.com calculates how much the average household in America's largest metro areas could issue monthly car payments and afford car insurance.

Once again leader: in Washington, D.C. with the median budget will bring a maximum monthly payment of $641.

The study showed that Tampa and Miami are the only two cities where car affordability decreased in the past year.

The biggest jump has been in San Antonio, where affordability by 7 per cent to the previous year compared.

Interest.com makes 20 percent down assuming their calculations of the buyer and take a 48-month car loan.

Top 5 metro areas for car affordability

1 Washington, D.C.

($32.531 affordable purchase price / $641 maximum monthly payment)

(2) San Francisco

($28.009 affordable purchase price / $563 maximum monthly payment)

3. Boston

($26.669 affordable purchase price / $520 maximum monthly payment)

4. Minneapolis

($24.846 affordable purchase price / $494 maximum monthly payment)

(5) Baltimore

($24.591 affordable purchase price / $479 maximum monthly payment)

Buyers overwhelmed

With the average price at the dealers for a new car now topping $32,000 paid says Interest.com, that many households in America cannot afford major metropolitan areas, to as much as they spend on new cars and trucks.

"I'm worried that the average purchase price is so much higher than the average income of the families," said Sante. "Clearly, not many people have a plan for how much they can spend and can afford."

The truth is only a few car buyers, the 20 percent down when they buy a new vehicle, and according to Experian Automotive only 4.7 percent of all new cars car were loans in the fourth quarter of last year, 37-48 months. A record 20.1 percent of car loans could be compared between six and seven years according to Experian.

The rising popularity of longer car loans is due to new car buyers who are looking to keep their monthly payments as low as possible.

"You should borrow no more than 48 months or you end up going to pay for a new car for ever," said Sante.

Cities with the lowest affordability

21 Phoenix

($18.199 affordable purchase price / $364 maximum monthly payment)

22 Pittsburgh

($17.965 affordable purchase price / $354 maximum monthly payment)

23 Detroit

($17.352 affordable purchase price / $338 maximum monthly payment)

24 Miami

($15.174 affordable purchase price / $299 maximum monthly payment)

25 Tampa

($14.209 affordable purchase price / $280 maximum monthly payment)

20.04.10 rule

Sante believes more American households would need to save more money or something else to spend, if they the "20.04.10 rule" followed

20 percent down.

Take a car loan no longer than 4 years.

Make sure that you spend no more than 10 percent your monthly gross salary for a car payment and auto insurance.

"She really a battle plan should, when starting a new car or truck, to buy" Sante said. "If you could you not spending more than you can afford really can be found."

Bring car buyers incentives from the cold

Bring car buyers incentives from the cold
U.S. auto sales in February were more rain than late in the month despite cold and snowy weather as juicy incentives drew customers in traders expected.

General Motors drove behind the expectations of analysts, that Monday showed sales up 1 percent to 222.104 vehicles.

Analysts had expected a decline of 6 per cent for the biggest car company in the U.S. market.

While GM Malibu Cruze and Sonic passenger cars of every two-digit gains of the turnover of the company written, top-selling Chevy Silverado pick-up fell 12 percent.

Ford slightly beat expectations by posting the U.S. sales of 183.947 vehicles, by 6 per cent compared with the previous year.

John Felice, Director who said U.S. sales for Ford, month had started slowly but grew in the last week "us momentum" heading into the March, when temperatures are likely to to moderate.

An opinion poll 34 analysts by Thomson Reuters expectations, would be the US sales for February, flat with a year earlier. Continued cold in the month probably many car buyers from the dealer so analysts held.

GM said it foreign U.S. car sales of 15.4 million vehicles in February on an annual basis, expected a forecast of 34 analysts surveyed by Reuters matching.

Also, Chrysler and Nissan were topping analysts expectations.

Chrysler, a unit of Fiat Chrysler cars, said that the demand for his two best-selling jeep had helped models Grand Cherokee and the Cherokee SUVs to push his monthly sales by 11 percent to 154.866 vehicles. Analysts had expected a rise of 8 percent.

Sales of Chrysler top-selling vehicle, the RAM pickup, to 24 percent.

Nissan showed an increase of 16 percent, under the direction of 73 per cent jump in the Rogue crossover vehicle sales. Analysts had expected an increase of 12 percent.

Greater incentives

Server services, the average incentive discount to entice consumers, but which also eats car companies into profit margins, increased from 5 per cent to $2,633 per vehicle in February compared to the previous year and was down 3.3 percent from January, according to TrueCar research company and car-buying Web site.

Partial compensation was an increase in the average selling prices 3.6 percent or the numbers on the cars be sold higher incentives.

"Incentive the increase of average selling prices despite a year compared with the previous year exceeded ATP for most car manufacturers, is spending," said Larry Dominique, executive Vice President of TrueCar. "We expect a return to the balance and ease as soon as winter subsides supplies."

GM and Ford, which ranks in the US market, offer some of the heftiest incentives.

Volkswagen US sales of 27.112 by 16 percent. The top-selling vehicle, Jetta, achieved sales of 11.908, down 4 percent.

Nissan had its best February in the U.S. market on record, selling 115.600 vehicles. Sales rose by 17 percent for its primary Nissan brand and won 6 per cent for the Infiniti luxury brand.

Analysts on average estimated Honda Motor Sales for February had risen about 1 percent, and were about the same as a year earlier by Toyota, Hyundai and Kia.

A new way to use an iPhone in the car

Tech Titans are hard fought to get their technology in your car. Apple made a big step in this ongoing battle.

The company on Monday announced that car manufacturer starts with a new technology called CarPlay, the consumer calls with their iPhones in their cars, cards, music listening and access messages with their voice or a hint.

It just works: climbing in the car, connect the iPhone 5 s, 5C or 5 and then an on-board-8.4 inch screen, use to all information on the iPhone.

"We this, built for our customers for our users," said Greg Joswiak, Vice President of iPhone, CNBC. "We want not your great experience with their iPhone at the moment to stop, get in the car. We want it better and better. "

Apple is together with Mercedes-Benz that CarPlay is to present in its c-series until the end of this year.

Kal MOS, senior director of engineering at Mercedes-Benz, said that the two companies target similar demographics.

"I like what offers CarPlay today," MOS CNBC said, "and the intuitive manner, which she interacts during the ride. We want to provide the best possible user experience, and that's what Apple is famous."

Mercedes-Benz would not disclose the price for CarPlay but Thilo Koslowski, Gartner, analyst, says automakers could charge up to $1,000 for the system.

Mercedes-Benz Apple is partnered with a number of car manufacturers like Ferrari, Volvo and on the road, BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, KIA, Mitsubishi, Nissan, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.

Other tech companies work hard to introduce cars and their technologies.Google, for example, has Audi, GM, Honda, and Hyundai its Android platform bring the cars this year done together.

Apple, like all its competitors want to consumers on its operating system, at all times: at work, at home and in their cars. Mercedes-Benz said consumers want CarPlay itself as an "iPhone on wheels."

Honda boosts plant Mexico rank car export

Honda boosts plant Mexico rank car export
With the opening Friday of a Honda factory in the city of Celaya, Mexico, the land, always the largest car exporter in the United States takes another step in the direction of.

As soon as the Japanese automaker which final assembly operation is up and running, to overtake No. 2 auto exporter in the United States Mexico Japan.

Mexico, Canada and more vehicles in the United States than any other country should send until the end of 2015.

"Our new plant in Mexico is based on the Honda company maintaining a global vision to products of the highest quality, but at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction deliver," said Takanobu Ito, President and CEO of Honda.

The plant, which will produce 200,000 fit flow tail coupes a year, is Mexico's 13th full auto assembly plant. In contrast, there are 44 final assembly plants in the United States

"Mexico is the place to be in North America, if you are a car manufacturer," said Thomas Klier, an economist with the Federal of Chicago, specialized Reserve Bank in the automotive industry.

A number of factors are behind the trend.

The country location and many trade agreements first make it to create the perfect place for many automotive manufacturers and to send vehicles, according to experts.

"Mexico has the best passports in the world for automotive industry," said Joe Langley at IHS automotive. "It has FTAs with major countries around the world, and it is in the backyard of the second largest automotive market in the world."

Klier agreed on the geographical advantage.

"Mexico is almost like a hub for car manufacturers," he said. "they have the United States and Canada in the North. You can supply countries in South America and in Europe."

It also helps that Mexican autoworkers make about one-fifth of which are paid in the United States and Canada. And as more decision makers create or operations in Mexico to expand, increasing his skillful work.

Attention shifted now on Mazda, the first plant in Mexico within the next two weeks open. Audi plant opened in the State of Puebla by 2016.

This holes the next wave of expansion will start according to the experts.

"This is just the tip of the iceberg for Mexican auto production," Langley said. "I expect that we get to hear a few more releases within the next year."

Hyundai is the most likely candidate to head south of the border capacity, such as its US plants in the vicinity. And do not be surprised if Audi builds Mercedes-Benz and BMW followed more luxury cars in Mexico.

7 ways cheap car insurance can backfire

7 ways cheap car insurance can backfire
| By Barbara Marquand, Insurance.com

When it comes to auto insurance, sometimes you get what you pay for -- and if you're not paying a lot, you might regret it.

Everybody wants lower car insurance rates, but you could wind up sorry if you shop by price alone.

Skimping on coverage can leave you financially exposed and wishing you had spent more for better protection and service.

"Don't shortchange yourself," says Anna Molin, an independent insurance agent with Huntington & Wheatsworth in Towaco, N.J. "In the long run, it's not worth it, and it's really not that much more to get something decent."

That doesn't mean you ignore price. But when comparing car insurance quotes and policies, make sure you compare apples to apples.

"People think they're comparing apples to apples, but sometimes those apples are rotten," says Addison Gardner, owner of The Gardner Insurance Group in Oklahoma City.

Here are seven ways cheap car insurance can backfire:

Most states require you to have liability insurance, but the minimum amounts you have to buy are low.

California's minimum liability limits of 15/30/5 were set in 1967, says Tully Lehman, a spokesperson for the Insurance Information Network of California. (That's $15,000 per person for bodily injury liability, $30,000 for bodily injury per accident and $5,000 for property damage.)

"You can exceed that $5,000 limit very quickly," he says. "The same goes for bodily injury."

Once the limits are exceeded, you're on the hook for paying damage or injuries you cause, and accident victims can sue you for your assets.

Gardner says he runs into a lot of consumers who got sold a cheap policy and were told they had "full coverage." But actually they had only the bare-minimum liability insurance with some collision and comprehensive coverage.

"If you own a $200,000 house and you hit someone with a $100,000 Mercedes, guess where the lawyers are going to dip to get the money?" he says.

Raising the deductible on collision and comprehensive insurance is one way to lower premiums, and it's preferable to forgoing collision and comprehensive altogether if you have a car with some value, Molin says.

But don't raise the deductible so high that you can't afford to pay it when your car needs repairs.

In some states, some non-standard car insurance policies contain exclusions in the fine print, says Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for CarInsurance.com. These are policies promoted as cheap coverage for risky drivers.

For instance, unlike most standard policies, some no-frills policies don't extend coverage to rental cars, and they don't automatically extend coverage to a new car when you replace your vehicle. (With a standard policy, your current insurance typically extends to a replacement vehicle, although you're required to notify your insurer within a certain timeframe, usually 14 to 30 days, after buying a car.)

With a cheap policy you might get dinged harder for minor violations or accidents than you would with other policies, Gusner says. That means you'll pay higher premiums at renewal time, and the cheap policy might end up costing you more in the long run.

Check out the reputation of an insurance company before buying. Many state insurance departments post information about complaints against insurance companies.

"Ask yourself if the company is going to have your best interests at heart when it comes time to file a claim," says Lehman.

Molin says beware of companies you've never heard of.

Options like rental car reimbursement and emergency roadside service don't cost that much, but they can come in awfully handy. Rental car reimbursement pays for a rental car while your vehicle is in the shop after a covered accident. Emergency roadside service pays for towing and service if your car breaks down or you lock yourself out.

James Kuryak, principal of Niagara National Insurance in Buffalo, N.Y., says too often customers who buy a healthy amount of liability insurance to protect their assets skimp on uninsured motorist coverage. This insurance covers you, the insured members of your household and passengers for injuries or death when an uninsured or hit-and-run driver causes an accident. Kuryak recommends bumping up uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage to the limits of your liability insurance.

He also suggests increasing personal injury protection insurance if you're in a no-fault state and you routinely shuttle around a lot of passengers, such as your kids' friends to soccer practice or school.

Overall, Kuryak says, review your car insurance coverage periodically to make sure it's sufficient for your life situation today.

"At the time of an accident no one thinks about what they paid for insurance anymore," he says. "It's all about what coverage you have."

Car hacking: The next big cybercrime?

Car hacking: The next big cybercrime?
| By Holly Ellyatt, CNBC

As the in-car computers pick up more steam, keep in mind that more technology often means more ways for crooks to get you.

As modern cars evolve towards becoming fully autonomous, security experts are warning of a new form of cybercrime: Car hacking.

Car hacking- --where criminals can either remotely directly or take control of your car from their laptops – has become a bigger and bigger headache for car manufacturers and law enforcement bodies as in-car technology becomes more sophisticated.

There are already thousands of semi-autonomous cars already on the market that contain in-car computer systems, or electronic control units (ECU), responsible for safety functions such as detecting skids, predicting crashes and performing anti-lock braking.

By 2020, car makers predict that cars could become fully autonomous and manufacturers such as BMW have already created self-driving cars.

However, along with other computer systems, in-car technology is not hacker-proof, as tests by academics and "white hat" hackers – those that break into computer systems to highlight security issues -- have shown.

Demonstrating their Pentagon-funded work at the global "DefCon" hackers conference in Las Vegas last August, Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek showed global security experts in attendance how they could take control of a 2010 Toyota Prius and Ford Escape model using just a laptop.

They were able to remotely take control of the cars' electronic smart steering, braking, displays, acceleration, engines, horns and lights. They could even make the fuel tanks show a full tank of gas when there wasn't. To top it all, they did all this using an old Nintendo handset.

"Automobiles are no longer just mechanical devices. Today's automobiles contain a number of different electronic components networked together that as a whole are responsible for monitoring and controlling the state of the vehicle," Miller and Valasek stated in their research -- "Adventures in Automative Networks and Control Units".

"Drivers and passengers are strictly at the mercy of the code running in their automobiles and, unlike when their web browser crashes or is compromised, the threat to their physical well-being is real," the authors stated.

"You cannot have safety without security."

In 2011, researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California-San Diego were able to wirelessly hack into cars, though they withheld details of which cars they were able to "own" for fear of their knowledge being used by criminals.

The potential danger of car hacking and its use by criminals has not been lost on law enforcement bodies in both Europe and the U.S., where the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an auto cybersecurity research program investigating car hacking.

The director of the Europe's Cybercrime Centre, a body within the European Union's law enforcement agency Europol, told CNBC that the potential for in-car technology to be hacked and used for organised crime, revenge, profit and competitive advantage was great.

"We are very concerned about the direction of car hacking," Troels Oerting told CNBC. "Everyone [in the car industry] wants to make cars more helpful -- for them to help with steering, parking, breaking and even driving -- but if you do this the downside is that someone will try to use this to their advantage and for criminals, this would generally be for profit or revenge."

"Wireless technology is integrated into practically everything nowadays and if there's wireless access to anything there's a possibility to remotely control it," Oerting warned.

"We have already seen electronic devices being used to get into cars to steal them but the next step we could see is someone able to manipulate the car, steer and brake while you're in the car and without your knowledge," he said.

If a car could be remotely accessed, then, what was to stop organized crime groups "eliminating" their enemies by literally driving their car remotely off a bridge or cliff, Oerting said. In countries where carjacking was common, such as South Africa, remotely accessing the in-car technology could allow criminals to stop and open car doors very easily.

Oerting said that car manufacturers were aware of the issues and that ultimately they were liable for the security – or lack thereof -- of their vehicles.

Following the "hacks" by white hat hackers Miller and Valasek in Las Vegas this summer on the Ford and Toyota cars, the automotive industry has been keen to respond and reassure consumers that they are tackling the security issues in their vehicles.

A spokesman for Ford Motors, Craig Daitch, told CNBC that "while an attack by a hacker who obtains physical access to a vehicle for a prolonged period of time is difficult to completely diminish, Ford has made strides in limiting the ways a hacker can fully take control of a vehicle."

Toyota's public affairs manager, Cindy Knight, said meanwhile that "cyber-security is an important issue for the entire automotive industry, from automakers to suppliers to the agencies that oversee motor vehicle safety," she told CNBC.

"At Toyota, we take seriously any form of tampering with our electronic control systems. We strive to ensure that our electronic control systems are robust and secure and we will continue to rigorously test and improve them," she said.

Despite their reassurances, however, there is no guarantee that a computer system is hack proof. "You will never know when criminals' knowledge keeps up with the improvements to the technology," Europol's Oerting said.

"It's important that consumer and carmakers are aware of the downside to technological developments. You need people to be able to drive using this technology without fearing every five seconds that your car will be taken over."

10 tips for buying a car in 2014

10 tips for buying a car in 2014
| By Tara Baukus Mello, Bankrate.com

A purchase this big usually doesn't come without a lot of planning beforehand. Make sure you know how to pull off a successful car purchase.

If you're thinking about buying a car this year, start planning and budgeting now. Car buying is costly -- typically the second most expensive purchase that most Americans make after their homes. To avoid making a bad decision, follow these 10 tips for car buying in 2014.

Having your eye on a specific car is no help if you can't afford it. Allocating no more than 20 percent of your monthly household income for all the cars in your household is a good rule of thumb for car buying. This figure should include not only the monthly car loan payment, but all the costs to operate them, including gasoline costs and car insurance. Use Bankrate's home budget calculator to help you determine your monthly bills and necessary savings.

Used cars have been in high demand for several years now, making prices higher overall, while there is a wider array than ever of inexpensive new cars.

As a result, you may want to consider new and used cars that fit within your budget. There are trade-offs with each. Buying used means you can get a more expensive car for your money, but the trade-offs include not knowing the car's history, a shorter warranty period during your ownership and higher interest rates.

Buying a new car means you'll get less car features for the same money, but you get the benefit of the full warranty as well as often free maintenance and roadside assistance, not to mention lower interest rates.

Take that list of cars you've noticed while driving around town or at your local auto show and start researching them online. Visit the automaker websites and independent automotive information sites to assess the car's features that are important to you and get an idea of inventory available in your area.

Don't forget to note the manufacturers' suggested retail prices and invoice prices when car buying. Choose cars that are at least 5 percent less than your monthly budget to give yourself some room to cover costs such as fuel, insurance, repairs and maintenance. Create a traditional paper or electronic file for your research, but don't rush off to the dealership for a test drive yet.

Once you have a handful of cars in mind, see if you can afford them by estimating the ownership costs for each. An independent auto information website like Edmunds.com will help you with cost of ownership data for your area, but remember that these numbers will vary depending on your personal situation. Use these numbers to get the best calculation, but do your own calculation for gas based on the number of miles you drive annually and for insurance by calling your car insurance agent to get a quote for your household. Be prepared to tell the agent the exact car, including model, engine and sometimes certain options to get an accurate quote.

While you may be drawn to a certain car or brand because of an ad for a low interest rate, it's of no use unless you qualify, and only about 10 percent of car buyers qualify for the zero-percent and low-interest-rate deals automakers offer. Even then, you may be better off financially by taking the cash rebate offered and getting financing elsewhere. Don't visit a dealership until you've researched the best interest rate you can get. Use Bankrate's rate search tool to see current interest rates and also check with local lenders, including credit unions, which are 1 percent to 2 percent lower on average than conventional banks.

There are now many community credit unions open to anyone living in their area, eliminating the need to work at a certain company or in a specific industry to join. You should consider these institutions when car buying. Use CULookup.com to find a credit union you can join. Once you've determined your best interest rate, use the car rebate vs. low-interest calculator to determine which one is the better deal.

Don't let your eagerness to test drive the cars that interest you find you at the dealership too soon. Dealers don't just want to sell you a car. They want to get you to sign a car loan, too. Dealers typically receive a set fee or a commission on the car loans that they coordinate, regardless of whether that loan is from the manufacturer or a local lender they work with. Also, use caution if that offer seems too good to be true based on your credit or other loan approvals you've received. Dealers will sometimes indicate they can get you a great rate to get you to sign a contract, only to gloss over the section that says the car loan rate is contingent on the loan approval.

Your car research should have included the invoice price for new cars or wholesale price for used cars, as well as the manufacturer's suggested retail price for new cars or the dealer's asking price for used cars. While invoice pricing on third-party information sites isn't 100 percent accurate, it is a good indicator of what the dealer paid for the car. And, it's the best place to start your negotiation. Aim to reach an agreement on the sale price that is close to that number before any applicable discounts are applied. But, keep in mind that the dealer needs to make at least a few hundred dollars profit to cover the costs of running the dealership.

You've probably seen automakers touting "cash-back" deals in advertisements, and these incentives should be factored into the price you pay. In addition, many automakers also offer discounts based on the person that is buying the car as well, such as students, members of the military and even members of certain credit unions. These discounts can be combined with each other as well as with the cash-back rebates on the model. In addition, manufacturers sometimes offer dealers $1,000 or more as an incentive to sell cars that make up an unusually larger inventory. Use a vehicle information source like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds.com to see what incentives are being offered to dealers on the models that you are considering and then ask the dealer to share that cash incentive with you by further discounting the price.

When you have done your research and are ready to visit dealerships, call and ask to make an appointment for a test drive with the Internet or fleet manager. That way, if you decide you are ready to buy, you will be working with someone who is less likely to strong-arm you into a deal. When you do start to discuss price, keep in mind all the discounts you researched and forget about trading in your car as part of the deal for the moment.

It's easier to get the best price for each if you negotiate the sale price of your new car and the trade-in value of your old car separately. Make sure you do your research about your current car's value online in advance so you know whether you are being offered a fair price. Once you've reached an agreement, be prepared to say no to all the extras you may be offered. Instead, do the research at home for whatever it is that interests you and contact the dealership at a later date to negotiate a fair price for that item.

To get the most bang for your buck, you'll want to keep your car for five years or longer, so take a thorough test drive to make sure you'll be happy for the long term. Take extra time with the car parked to adjust the seats and experiment with the controls and the car's other features. Make sure all of your typical passengers and cargo fit well and the passengers are comfortable -- even if that means spending some time installing a child safety seat or putting your golf clubs in the trunk while you're in the dealer's lot. Finally, think about your life five years from now and try to imagine if this car will suit your needs then in terms of people and cargo.

Ford developed the solar powered car for everyday use

Ford developed the solar powered car for everyday use
Ford has developed a conceptual model first and foremost on solar energy, which the world one step closer to the have a vehicle for your daily commute could bring, which is dependent on non-traditional energy sources.

The C-MAX solar Energi concept is a collaboration between Ford, SunPower Corp. and the Georgia Institute of technology. The concept car is expected to be unveiled next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Like all concept models can solar Energi concept never built the C-MAX or sold to the public. However, many of the features and technologies were, we see that even for the first time in concept models shown years ago in today's vehicles.

Use of Sun power

Ford says that the C-MAX solar Energi concept would be driven collected by using a special concentrator, which acts like a magnifying glass by energy.

The concentrator would take energy from the Sun, light and direct intensive radiation panels on the roof of the vehicle.

In theory the C-MAX could be connected solar Energi completely even without the vehicle into an electrical outlet must be charged. Ford believes that sunshine could until 75 percent of all travel in a solar hybrid vehicle, although the automaker doesn't yield a distance for these trips.

Solar powered cars do not

Solar powered cars have been developed and all over the world for years driven, but almost exclusively in competitions or research how far cars could programs to show travel without gas. In most cases, the cars were developed small capsules to keep only one driver.

The challenge has long been a way to find makes enough solar energy to a vehicle that could be used every day and have to use more than just the driver.

Even driving to 9% of car sales in the year 2035: study

Even driving to 9% of car sales in the year 2035: study
Sale of vehicles, to be able, even driving in about two decades, published according to a forecast by IHS automotive car industry consultant on Tuesday considered about 9 percent of global auto sales.

Concentrated itself can drive the investigation on autonomous vehicles with "needed no attention by the driver", IHS analyst Egil Juliussen said. " Such cars are currently not available for sale, but IHS predicts that she will be the market around 2025.

IHS expects worldwide sales of self-driving cars in the year 2025 to 230,000--less than 1 percent of the 115 million cars this year is expected to be sold.

But 2035, reaching a turnover of even driving cars 11.8 million or 9 per cent of the 129 million auto sales expected this year, Juliussen said.

Most are these sales in established auto markets such as the United States, Western Europe and Japan.

The pace of growth for self-driving cars that will exceed by electric cars, hobbled by the high cost of batteries, Juliussen said.

Depreciation is heavy electric cars

Depreciation is heavy electric cars
Plug in electric cars can be State of the art technology, but an analysis suggests that the most dramatic period of five years as their conventional counterparts will lose value.

Some of the largest value of defects include 2014 models, which only operated by batteries, no gas motors according to the analysis by Kelley Blue Book today at the request of the United States.

Examples:

Chevrolet spark EV. The small electric is projected, to 28 percent of the list price $28.305 in five years worth, while a comparable conventional version of the same car will keep 40 percent of its value.

Ford focus electric. The Compact will be worth 20 percent of its original $35,995-list price, while 36 percent will dominate a well-equipped conventional focus Titanium with an automatic transmission.

Nissan leaf. Even the top-selling pure electric car is 2013 forecast on a residual value of 15 per cent for the model. A similar Nissan Sentra would receive 36 percent SL compact.

"Moderately absorb pure electrics have been in the re-sale value", says Eric Ibara, Director of the remaining consulting for Kelley Blue Book. Customers, the "ready, a new, to buy a used electric vehicle?"

In fact three electric cars - Fiat 500e sheet, and smart fortwo electric - have the highest depreciation under all cars top the list of the models from the KBB and trucks for model year 2014 are projected.

Combating concerns about depreciation, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk in may, announced that he personally the resale value of their model S all-electric sedan for buyers would ensure that Tesla's finance program. Tesla said that under the deal, resale value higher than BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Jaguar.

As bad as that sounds, there are some mitigating factors. In particular, many buyers sales incentives are packages and numbers not anywhere near the list price. Some of the biggest discounts come on leasing. And many electric vehicles qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $7,500, plus State or incentives. Great discounts on news cars damage of residual value.

Plug in hybrid cars, which with backup gas engines, fair better, KBB reports. Including the new Panamera Porsches compared E-hybrid a projected resale value by 37 percent, with 41 percent for the conventional model. Plug-In Prius a resale by 35 percent, 2 percentage points lower than for the conventional version has Toyota.

Nissan officials note the electric vehicle, or EV, revolution is still in its infancy. The market for used electric cars is yet to develop.

"We expect to see a similar adoption curve for used EVs because of new EVs, and we reach just the point where it used EVs on the market," says Erik Gottfried, Director of marketing for Nissan leaf. "EVs are active and fast-moving segment of the automotive market."

Cuba airs 50-year-old rules on car sales

Cuba airs 50-year-old rules on car sales
For the first time since the revolution of 1959, the Cubans have the right to purchase new and used vehicles by the State without government approval, a step toward more economic freedom on the Communist-run island official media Thursday, announced.

In the course of a reform two years ago Cubans can buy and sell used cars from each other, but must be from the Government, a new vehicle or second-hand one, in the rule, retailers buy a relatively modern car, State authorization request.

The Communist Party newspaper Granma, said that Council of Ministers decided new rules on Wednesday that "eliminate existing mechanisms of approval for the purchase of motor vehicles by the State."

As a result, Granma said, "is the retail sale of new and used motorcycles, cars, vans, vans and mini buses for Cubans and foreign citizens, companies and diplomats free."

The Cuban Government maintains a monopoly on the retail sale of cars.

The liberalisation of car sales was one of more than 300 reform, that of President Raul Castro, who took over for his sick brother of Fidel in 2008 and in 2011 at a Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba's only legal political party allowed to continue.

The proposed amendments provide a greater emphasis on private initiative, which had been largely suppressed under Soviet system of Cuba and less government control over the sale and purchase of items such as houses and cars.

Today, there are tens of thousands of private small businesses in Cuba, and thousands of farm, construction, transport and other types of cooperatives, which should benefit from the new rules. Many Cubans who receive money from relatives living abroad should also be helped.

Before September 2011, only the cars, which were in Cuba before the revolution 1959 freely bought and sold could, therefore, there are as many 50s or older vehicles, most of them United States manufactured, rumbling through Cuban streets.

There are also many Soviet-made cars from the time when the Soviet Union of the island of largest ally and benefactor was.

Newer models are largely in State hands and sold used at a relatively low price, people choose such as Cuban diplomats and doctors, who then often serve abroad, sell them on four or five times the price.

Cubans and foreigners need government permission to import a new or used car, a regulation, Granma said was not lifted.

The new regulations will be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette and become law 30 days later. You were expected to include rigid control, currently 100 percent for new cars, with the proceeds to finance the country's decrepit public transport system, Granma said.

Surprise! You can not have your car.

Surprise! You can not have your car.
At the moment for the purchase of a vehicle the finalization of the title work that can pleasure might exciting rapidly numb, but when it comes to if hit with a not-so-fun, Department of motor vehicles (DMV) can visit. The sometimes tedious journey must ensure full ownership; not all new car owners follow through with him and encounter problems when the try to find your car to sell even that they technically do not have it.

As Operations Manager for flat 12 Gallery of Meggan Bailey handled the paperwork for the countless sales her fiance Jeff Allen, the owner of the boutique auto shop, makes. The pair, who both on CNBC's "the car tracker" displayed, find many problems occur after an appointments by the seller with unfinished or sloppy paperwork.

Make sure that it is in your name

One of the most obvious steps that the Bailey says people who is overlooked, after buying a car officially put the title on their behalf. This usually happens when people buy used vehicles or older, they are looking for, to restore.

"So that they all get these papers, they have their car and they think that they are ready." And then, they only to shake off that all formalities for the side want to sell the car until they and then usually, they don't find out the problem until then. So, now they have a buyer before them and they can not sell the car,"said Bailey.

After all, even the fastest DMV, takes up to 14 days to such a problem to fix. So it is recommended that a vehicle papers immediately after purchasing complete.

"Once you uninstall your name on the sign back, until what is Department of motor vehicles in your State to take", said Allen. "You pay the registration fees or numbers to the not-OPP charge or pay only title and get a title that is in your name."

Another issue that they often see occurs when a person has driven a car for years, to get the who then dies from a family member. If the receiver of the car is trying to sell it, he or she is still in the name of the deceased, and now one prove much laborious process to property endured must as if he/she would have used the paperwork on behalf of immediately upon receipt of the car.

Just like his body, inspect a car paperwork

The rules and regulations for title and what papers are prove ownership of a vehicle vary by State. Some require no titles on certain vehicles, so that often sell them, a contract of sale and the current registration is required.

What is paperwork required a buyer carefully it should scrutinize, how she physically inside and outside would control a vehicle, before you buy, Bailey said. Rips and tears, lines crossed out or dates, which changed by hand can cause all the problems.

"A different situation is Jeff when I buy a car and I toss aside the papers and then, now I decide I'll go and register it", she said. "But let's say on the title, he made a mistake and there are lines through it or dates changed and I treated two years ago with Jeff. I don't know his number, I don't know how to reach him and I have a title with all sorts of errors or eraser on it."

In many States, so a damaged title is null and void, she said.

"So only left is to try to link the car and certain conditions can it do you. But really, at this moment your car, not yours."

It is also crucial for double check, the print on the car corresponds to vehicle identification number (VIN), written on his papers. Allen and Bailey say that they find that a digit off in about 20 percent of purchases, they are trying to do, so stop stop a sale or it until the VIN can be corrected.

"In the end, you want to not only poor paperwork. It too long, takes to it clean, "said Allen.

Bailey adds, that a proper title and registration on file also protects against fire and other unexpected situations.

"If your title burned and register it in your name, you go and experience a double title," she said. "Although there are some large theft or fraud or calls when seized [vehicle] or [someone tries] to do a slim sales, you will be notified."

The French car manufacturer want to continue vehicle sales in the Iran, to reclaim its position in the market before the mass arrival competitors behind any lasting relaxation, the consequences could with a six-month easing of trade restrictions.

Production of domestic automobile industry of Iran, unusually developed for the Middle East reached 1.6 million cars in 2011, the year crippling sanctions were introduced. About half of this expenditure accounted for leading manufacturer Iran Khodro.

Have a handful of foreign production partners - including the South Korean KIA, Suzuki Motor Corp. and the two French manufacturers - manufacturer SAIPA Khodro and no. 2 and exported some of its vehicles.

The Conference in Tehran planned before last weekend Iran talks breakthrough, nuclear weapons consists of representatives of the German, Korean and Japanese manufacturers on their payroll.

Volkswagen, Suzuki, Kia and Hyundai partner denied all Iranian media reports that she wanted to visit, but Renault and PSA Peugeot Citroen confirms that they were sending representatives.

In return for companies by Tehran to suspend key parts of its nuclear program agreed the so-called P5 + 1 powers on November 24, a six month suspension of the trade sanctions on selected goods including auto parts.

The easing by starting in early January, is good news for the French, the semi of built cars in the Iran as a component for installation by local partners of Iran Khodro and SAIPA "kits" until very recently published.

Meanwhile, U.S. automakers remain Malays from the Iran national regulations, including a trade embargo, which provides immediate relief is not subject to.

POSITIONING

In the case of a continuing diplomatic thaw Iran has potential, a profitable, fast growing car soon more than 2 million vehicles market annually, analysts say.

"There is enormous and immediate interest in the Iran," said Thierry Coville, an Iran specialist at IRIS, a French international relations think tank.

Sanctions relief on cars brings tangible benefits to ordinary Iranians that in six months to win domestic support for more concessions for a final nuclear deal can help President Hassan Rouhani, Coville said.

"It will be pretty fast in a sector, which is a great source of Iranian jobs-, so this is more than just symbolic impact is."

More than 100,000 auto workers were fired when sanctions of Iran's largest manufacturing industry, with plants, which came now more than half capacity, according to official data.

In combination with the increasing average age of the vehicles on the streets of Iran, this tempting tier replacement demand, released could spell, if full market opening were followed by the recalcitrant inflation and a stronger Organization.

Peugeot reached a market share of 29 percent to the top 458,000 sales 2011 Renault claims 5.9 per cent of the national registrations. The former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad drove a Peugeot 504.

But the substantial tightening of US led sanctions against the oil industry and financial transactions, production to 292,000 cars in the first half of this year fell Persian, which began in March.

Western automakers seem to have for months before an expected reopening positioning was have.

"We've been in our hands,", said a source close to Renault, adding that some Iranian production was running from stocks of components, the June US Executive order parts shipments before you stop this time.

The French carmaker since talks on a resumption of deliveries, weeks, the source said.

Peugeot situation is complex, because shipments halted at have more - since February 2012 - and one of the Paris-based carmaker pursued strategic alliance with General Motors 7 percent shareholder.

Peugeot hopes that an easing of the sanctions the 150 million euro ($204 million), which they erased by profit, finances should be restored, what Chief Jean-Baptiste de Chatillon analysts said this week.

Audi Ford surges, fights in latest consumer reports survey

Audi Ford surges, fights in latest consumer reports survey
Audi, which for years has fought to improve the reliability of the cars and SUVs, is rated among the most trusted brands in a new survey by consumer reports.

Ford continues to struggle, 26 out of 28 brands ranking. The survey also questions under Nissan, has dropped nine points to 22. Other consistently strong Japanese brands were named seven of the 10 most reliable.

In the meantime, the electric car Tesla model S painted first review a mixed picture. The model received an above average reliability assessment with very few complaints about the battery system. but with rising production, so have the number of tickets.

"The very first models of Tesla, it's almost as if she took one of the vehicles and walked it with a fine tooth comb and make sure that each of these vehicles were right," said Jake Fisher, consumer reports Director of the car to test. "Now, because they really want in terms of on their ramps of amounts of, you must find out how these cars also still reliably to make."

The survey showed Ford, the last year of 27. Course, still problems with its MyFord touch and MyLincoln touch infotainment systems. In addition, have "several EcoBoost Turbo V6 models as well as poor reliability. Nearly two-thirds of the 34 Fords and Lincolns in our survey said results, much as the average worse, "the report.

The C-Max Energi brand appreciated his worst model; at Nissan, the Pathfinder earned designation.

"Nissan is not one of the top manufacturers in relation to reliability, so they have actually several problems," Fisher said.

Fisher noted that the interesting thing about Audi was improved assessment, high-content vehicles with high-end pieces, electronic and power equipment, and they "nor does it right got."

The 2013 consumer survey reports car reliability is based on the responses of 1.1 million subscribers of the magazine.

Overall, the survey showed that the people think that the reliability of their cars has not changed much in the last year. Errors in the electronics and telematics in new models continue to thwart their owners.

"If engine, transmission involves major mechanical problems, etc. they are better, but the new electronic problems actually bring them down", said Fischer.

Toyota recalls 803,000 car models in the United States

Toyota recalls 803,000 car models in the United States
Toyota Motor approximately 803,000 sedans, especially its Camry, in the United States from the model years 2012 and 2013 due to potential problems with air conditioning capacitors, bearing in mind is, the company said on Thursday.

Car shut down could callbacks, impact auto safety delay.

Car shut down could callbacks, impact auto safety delay.
The closure of the four-day-old Federal Government already be felt by the automotive industry and the impact could force manufacturers to delay the introduction of some of its newest vehicles among others.

The highly politicized budget impasse is forcing some 800,000 federal workers on leave, put a stop to areas many services described as "unimportant". But that could be subject to a discussion in the automotive industry.

Under these services currently on ice they are Protection Agency (EPA) programs for determining the mileage ratings of new vehicles environmental and area crash tests by the national highway traffic safety test administration (NHTSA).

That could cause headaches, as the investigation into exactly why car battery Tesla model S earlier this week in a suburb of Seattle fire started. Normally, NHTSA researchers would work besides Tesla investigators determine you what provisionally debris 85-kilowatt-hour battery pack has been blamed puncturing part of the sedan on the road.

In turn the Government, a serious flaw in the model S design, were to discover, which could lead to a recall or other service promotion.

Other government crash test, the programs also should be moved, but it is unclear whether the development or the introduction of new products due to would be coming in the near future on the market.

But the NHTSA has been forced to a stop reminiscent of the vehicle. That probably could, a life-threatening matter if it that all critical means vehicle safety issues - such as faulty brakes, faulty airbags or some other serious flaws - for a long time were consensus.

Uncertainty depends on using the EPA fuel-economy program. An EPA rating is required, on the so-called Munroney "complete window sticker found on every new car in the United States sold and often, the tests required for these stickers just before a vehicle will start selling.

Due to the number of new products the EPA will do every year now expected, the rest only tests between 10 and 15 percent of all new vehicles with manufacturer introduced, but the Government still checked the test results before a car manufacturer approval, the resulting numbers are used.

Without that initial, can be unclear whether the 2014-news, yet certification get sold. She could be forced, sitting in showrooms indefinitely, if federal shutdown, with traders who draws not capable of these products on sale to put.

If you do not use the car, can I rent it?

If you receive a notice about the potential for CarSharing to programs, believes that other traditional car-rental companies, Hertz and Avis last pioneers in the short-term rental market, such as ZipCar, in the couple of years purchased.

Apparently those are rewarded well. A new study by Navigant research predicts that the number of car sharing participants are from 2.3 million in 2013 on more than 12 million in the year 2020 grow. Global sales should make a bigger leap from an expected $1 billion to $6.2 billion.

Car-sharing services offer an alternative to the traditional rent approach through targeted those who need a car for less than an hour. Customers access, usually vehicles for vacant lots or reserved parking places.

However, there are also a number of variations on the theme.

Pioneering companies such as ZipCar, much like a traditional car rental companies offer their own vehicles. But parts in a different view on the so-called economic, RelayRides, with each owner to earn such as partner some money, you want to rent their vehicles.

RelayRides, which recently joined with OnStar to it easier for a customer access to a car, that entry can be parked in an owner, a commuter train station or some other place. An OnStar app enables an authorized customers to unlock the car and they drive away, the pursuit of the settlement in the process.

"The emergence of mobile apps and vehicle connectivity growth driver is in the car-sharing services," said Navigant, based in Boulder, Colo.

Lisa Jerram, Navigant's senior research analyst, said car-sharing broader complaint is that it "Members the possibility of mobility without the expense and the effort of the ownership of a car or the need, often a vehicle by a traditional car rental to enjoy rent offers."

Market growth is expected to be clear to accelerate according to the study. A handful of brands now dominate the market, and traditional businesses have a position to occupy at lightning speed. For example Avis ZipCar bought in March.

According to their website, ZipCar has about 810,000 members and more than 10,000 vehicles in a growing global network, which now includes operations in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Spain.

Because the services members are largely based on transport, said Jerram at Navigant, "car-sharing is seen by public and private institutions as a powerful tool for the city to reduce congestion and lower greenhouse gas emissions."

GM takes with plans for 200-miles electric Tesla

GM takes with plans for 200-miles electric Tesla
As automakers race to cheaper electric cars with longer range, General Motors on a working, can go 200 miles per charge at a price of about $30,000, said Senior top companies.

Vice President of global product development Doug parks does not say when or if so a car, but will be built.

GM sells Chevrolet $35,000 currently Volt plug-in hybrid, which can go 38 miles on electricity before a gas-powered generator kicks. It offers also the all-electric Chevy spark subcompact, the 82 kilometers on a charge can go. It starts at $26.685. electric cars suitable for a federal tax credit of $7,500.

The 200-mile car costs about the same as the current Volt, and it would match the range and far cheaper than Tesla Motors $71,000, all-electric model s The S model can go up to 265 miles on one charge.

A cheap electric car with a 200-mile range would produce electric cars more appealing to Americans, the two Chief complaints about such cars do: fear to go out making and high price, said Tom Libby, leading North American analyst of vehicle Polk research firm.

"That would no doubt a big step forward," he said.

Batteries with cars currently only make U.S. sales only 0.3 percent, Libby said, but he is confident that would increase if a car manufacturer with a 200-miles cheap car came.

Tesla gets awards for the model S, including the highest test score, which ever recorded by consumer reports magazine. And the company of Palo Alto, California, electric car works to a mass market. CEO Elon Musk has said, it is a 200-mile range and costs about $35,000. He said it as end of 2016 sales could go so early.

GM has a different approach to Tesla, taken from said parks, prices electric vehicles of around 25,000 about $40,000. Don't go the battery costs as far to each fee kept low and the cars cheaper, he said.

"their prices for a truly unique customers", said parks of Tesla. "The real trick will be, who can make a 200-mile car for more of the price range, what I mean. We're all in the race to do."

The 200-mile car is not the next generation Volt. On the occasion of a Monday meeting on GM advanced battery lab in Warren, a suburb north of Detroit, parks show at its technical center who said that GM engineers are now working on a new Volt, a little go father on electricity than the current model and cost slightly less. He would not say when it will arrive in showrooms or how much it will cost.

GM showed a 50,000 square meters on Monday in addition to the battery lab. The extra space that size has almost doubled the laboratory, the company can test batteries and computer controls, which is much faster than before. Parks said it aims to develop electric cars twice as fast, how could the company in the past. It took GM about four years bring to the development of the Volt, and on the market.

Car profits, more than half from China rise

Car profits, more than half from China rise

Want global automakers, in the middle of one of its best years ever, is the rest of this decade rake in even greater profits, according to a new report. The challenge arises where revenues returned before the recession stand production in North America are specially designed for the big three (GM, Ford, Chrysler),.

"North America and China are the largest profit pool," said Hans-Werner Kaas from McKinsey & co. "China, in particular the premium market see the greatest growth."

McKinsey notes until 2020 more than half of the Chinese global car will grow profits by 50 per cent. The report projects emerging as the area where auto manufacturer primed to increase yields.

With U.S. auto sales surging this summer, grows, to build pressure on the automaker to add capacity, more cars and trucks. At the end of the year, half will be will be sold in the United States that operated North American by the big 3 models, which run three layers according to IHS automotive.

So when will the big 3 and add other car manufacturers, more assembly lines and plants?

"I'm sure that these discussions are already underway," said Kaas. "But the domestic automakers will expand carefully over the capacity."

Auto executives in Detroit and elsewhere in the near future have to make a decision, he added. It takes 18 to 24 months to bring a plant online. If sales at their current grow, North American car production are as far as possible extended period of a few years.

"Domestic automakers will hit the limits of capacity in North America by 2015, so is it no doubt executives have to start talking about the expansion of," Kaas said.

Volkswagen is building Audi models for the United States will provide a final assembly plant in Mexico.

China and emerging markets

McKinsey projects that emerging markets generated a larger share of the global auto sales in the next seven years. Such markets, including China, Russia and India, are responsible for half of all cars and trucks that are sold each year. The consulting firm expects that this share will rise to 60 percent by 2020.

The growth, particularly in China, that's why Kaas says that car manufacturers must still move more production to this country and emerging markets.

"Urbanization and industrialization drive growth in China and that will continue for many years," he said

General Motors, Ford, and Volkswagen all races to new plants, and run in China are General.

On Friday, standard and Poors raised Ford Credit rating to investment grade and picked up General Motors Outlook positive because of the success, which have both companies in China partly.

Their next car paint? See your iPhone

Their next car paint? See your iPhone
Henry Ford used to say that his clients could get a model T in any color that they wanted ", as long as it's black" - an option that is certainly today fly would not.

Automakers offer a comprehensive range of seemingly every shade between black and white, continue to grow. BASF, one of the largest paint the industry trend shows show automotive designers from 65 new shades as part of his annual color.

While a handful of shades dominate still - black, white, silver and grey - others are strongly influenced by factors popular colors, current events, consumer electronics, and concerns about the environment, Paul Czornij, the Technical Director of the BASF said color Excellence group.

Green and blue tones have become increasingly popular, always, he said, reflect an increased environmental focus. In the meantime white takes over from the long popular silver colors are associated with growing concerns, seems "on both sides of the political spectrum... ...dass things incorrectly, work," he added.

White also by trends in consumer electronics, gained ground, Czornij said. The trend-setting Apple iPhone made, a symbol of high technology, long associated with something silver white - a color that has lost momentum in recent years, according to industry sales data.

Today's high-tech colours, designer, however, allow access to various colors, he said. "The beauty is that you can create a lot of different offers" of light, shadow, he said. Added with green "you very greenish Blues or greenish yellow, can make" such as he.

The general trend model year 2014 "more and more rich, saturated colours" are predicted Czornij. But more slight deviations in colour and shine are even white. In fact, one of the biggest trends in the next few years could transition to the lower gloss colours, glossy or too matte surfaces.

In fact, mat is a favorite for automotive designers. The problem is that this ultralow-gloss finish can be extremely difficult to manage and expensive to repair. That has the color industry chemist crawl to a drop, so the mat surfaces easier with life and work.

Researchers are not only explore colors and finishes, but tried also respond to the demand for more environmentally friendly coatings. In the last decade, the industry almost exclusively on waterways has moved connections with far fewer emissions than solvent petroleum based.

The next step, the BASF in looks, you would use "repurposed" connections in the color formula. At the annual trend show the company from a formula shows the ultra fine rubber from recycled tires. The concept is always still "very experimental" Czornij, and it is too early to say when it would go into production.

BASF also is showing off on experimental paint connections that solar load reduction or the amount of energy that a car, for example, absorbed could be a hot day in Phoenix.

Due to the long lead times required in the automotive industry for things like color durability test that focuses on paints and lacquers, this year's trend show geared to the year 2017.

Together with green and blue tones are an attraction to shades of Brown in the next few years to have the American car buyer.

But color choices are usually quite different in other parts of the world.

BASF forecasts, the "intermediate colors such as olive green and bluish grey sophisticated" are becoming increasingly popular in the Asia-Pacific region.

Recession-ravaged Europe, the color supplier suggested "There is a tendency to rationally and calmly, to move forward". It anticipates a neutral black and grey especially popular are "creative, bold colors,", while, such as red and green, the dynamics will meet in the next few years.
