The US Department of transportation of a national advertising campaign has for the first time and "high-visibility enforcement crackdown" launched, especially young drivers use to discourage electronic handheld devices while behind the wheel.

The centerpiece of the $8.5 million-multi platform efforts is a 30-second video, which dramatized the devastating consequences for young people in a car, when the driver on her phone looks and goes through a stop sign.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates 3.328 people were killed and a further 421.000 injured in crashes related to distracted drivers during 2012.

The point said, advertising and enforcement programs in California and Delaware reduced hand-held usage by about a third.
