Chevy Volt may run out of juice

Running the Chevrolet DETROIT - volts of juice?

Even if the manufacturer begins his long-promised production ramp-up, a new study suggests that potential buyers hybrid vehicle quickly lose interest in the plug-in.

In December of last year is to test one of the first new vehicles, the potential market for electric Volt introduced. It has with Nissan go pure battery-electric leaf. Sales of the two vehicles have at best marginal, even if the manufacturer to be that more with limited supply as the buyer has to do demand.

End of July, Nissan Leafs sold Chevy about 3,200 of the plug-in hybrids compared to 4,500. But both automakers have begun ramping up production, General Motors forecasting sales of around 16,000 for the full year - including some a few volts aligned clone Opel Amperas in foreign markets.

But a new study by CNW marketing raises a red flag, which include most state that the potential customer is GM, quickly lose interest in the Volt. In March, 21 percent of the so-called early adapter said they were "very likely" to be considering buying a volt while 38.1 percent said that they were "likely" to do the same. That slipped to 14.6 per cent in July "very probably" say and 31.1% "probably". EV fans, the CNW study to review the number, likely or very likely reports volts fell during the same period four months by a combined 71 to 51 percent.

"It is too early to say, but the signs are not encouraging," said CNW's chief analyst art Spinella.

When it comes to mainstream consumers Volt has all but slipped only about 3 percent of the new from the radar screen, likely to the Chevrolet Volt the analyst view car buyers added...

The big problem is the plug-in prize, CNW data. Introduced, sticker led a $41,000 of the Volt, although it qualifies for a federal tax credit of $7,500. For 2012, the Chevy will drop to $39,995, $1,005 cut, although it is still thousands more than the hand - and almost double the price of a base Chevrolet Cruze compact, shares the same basics as a volt.

Chevy officials defend the price tag on the complexity of the dual-gas electric hybrid drive. Volt can be more than 35 km of the battery alone clocking. While less than half of the area which is Nissan electric vehicle can move the Chevy on gas - makes and go to its batteries run down.

GM officials remained convinced that Volt will meet the vehicle taking into account their expectations must not generate a broad appeal to still sales targets to achieve - the maker projects will grow in 2012, including Volt and Ampera 40,000.

GM of commitment to electric cars, if any, will be charged. As TheDetroitBureau.com reported last week, the carmaker has inked a deal with battery suppliers A123, that are used for a number of new battery-electric vehicles that reach market in the year 2014.
