GM sales directly 27% on small car sales gains

DETROIT - general sales jumped 27 percent Motors US car and truck in April as the economy further improved and the $4 a gallon gasoline pushed buyers in cars-saving fuel.

The largest US auto company sold 232,538 vehicles last month led by a shift to small cars and crossover vehicles.

GM used to rely more on sales of pickup trucks and large SUV for profits. However, these vehicles would prices spike at pump because it uses more gasoline.

The company sold more than 25,000 Chevrolet Cruze compact car in April, the best month for the car since its launch in October.

Johnson said that the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC accelerated terrain crossover big increases in April as the shift to smaller and more efficient vehicles from March posted.

Crossovers are like sport utility vehicles, but more fuel are effective because they are created on car platforms.

Analysts expect industry to increase total revenue in the United States to 19 per cent from April 2010
