Motoring mash-ups: 5 offbeat cars coming soon

Strange experiments are in the automotive industry is happening.

Companies are the different types of vehicles to create new breeds cross pollinating, and the results are sometimes confusing.

Nissan has transformed as his pudgy Murano in a convertible. Range Rover tempted Meanwhile some concern for the environment to show by your smallest, most car-like SUV at all, the Evoque.

Forbes.com slice show: a look at this automotive oddities

Both the Venetian Evoque are considered "Crossover," which by definition at home are a mixed bag: merge attributes of SUVs, wagons and minivans. It seems that these represent new variations the next level of crossing.

The line between different types of cars is ever hazier, in part by a focus on small cars make attractive driven. The Hyundai as well as the Scion launch small cars which stray from the norm of seating and overall packaging. The intention is for you more practical and therefore appeal to a wider audience.

The new vehicles come in 2011 are five here, not entirely typical forms fit.

Ferrari FF
Graft to the rear end of a wagon on a sports car, and get the Ferrari FF.

The FF a supercar that can enjoy the whole family should to be the most practical model Ferrari. There are four seats and a decent sized trunk, which is why the rear end is designed as it is.

Also the first Ferrari ever gets to have all-wheel drive. The name "FF" is an acronym for "four seats" and "Four-wheel drive." This car replaced the 612 Scaglietti and the only one with back seat until it was the production at the end of 2010 Ferrari's largest model.

The Ferrari-FF's V12 engine puts out 660 PWA power and is good for 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, says Ferrari.

Actually that's FF body style without precedent - it's just obscure. Lamborghini Espada from the 1960s and 70s had a roof like a car, a rear seat and trunk accommodate the stretched back. A recent example is the BMW Z3 Coupe, which - in contrast to the Ferrari and Lambo - had only two seats.

Here is a piece of trivia: this type of sports, stubby wagon is called a "shooting brake" in Europe.

Hyundai bicycle Speedster
Hyundai will be as cool as a Mini Cooper but more affordable and convenient little hatchback.

While styling and cool factor are subjective, it has a greater inner and the trunk as the mini.

What makes it is strange that there is a door on the driver's side and two doors on the passenger side. The idea was to keep, but a back door on the passenger side for easier access of the back seat a sporty two-door form.

Hyundai used motorcycles as design inspiration: wraparound windshield of the car is similar to a helmet visor and the centre console is in the form of a motorcycle's gas tank.

A 138 HP four cylinder engine should make the lightweight bicycle Speedster right upbeat. Hyundai expects to get 40 mpg on the highway. The car goes on sale this summer.

Nissan Murano cross cabriolet
The bulky convertible SUV type thing comes across much better in person than in photos. It will appeal to yuppies who like drop-tops, but do not care for sports cars and the compromises in comfort and convenience.

Nissan is modest for the Venetian cross cabriolet, setting shows, the company about its possibilities is realistic sales targets.

Several journalists on display at an event in December saw Murano cross cabriolet, thought that Nissan for the creation it was crazy. One even said he would be caught behind the wheel, and so would not be test driving it. A Nissan Rep at the same event said consumers positive have reacted.

Say the design in person what you will, the car looks and feels good with an equipped Interior and power folding fabric top high-end. Will reduce the trunk and back seat had to, and the rear doors have gone to accommodate the convertible roof. Other than that the information is similar to how a regular Murano.

Range Rover Evoque Coupe
The Evoque is Range Rover's first environmentally responsible young drivers aim; and for a company that has built only large, expensive, gas-guzzling SUVs with go-anywhere ability, it is a big deal.

In fact, the only reason (or at least the main reason) the Evoque is no car because Range Rover refuses to build anything other than SUVs for fear of tainting your image. Rightly so.

The Evoque's Range Rover's smallest, lightest SUV ever. Depending on how it is configured it can be less than the US version of the Land Rover LR2, currently the smallest SUV of the company up to 728 pounds weigh. Front fender plastic and aluminium help bonnet and roof to keep weight. Opt for front-wheel drive - a first on a range Rover and something that would have been inconceivable five years ago rather than the standard all-wheel drive saves 165 pounds.

Its silhouette and overall styling has the blocky as the company's SUVs intentionally car-like - especially on the two-door model - and much slimmer. The Evoque voted been driving like a sports sedan in the street. Its four cylinder engine is small for Range Rover, so is turbocharged produce much power for its size (240 HP).

4 Turige and two-door versions of the Evoque go on sale this fall. Land Rover expects "equipped" to sell models for around $45,000.

Scion iQ
The Scion iQ is a mash-up between a Scion xD and a smart fortwo.

Outside seems to be a two-seater, but actually there is room on the back for one adult and one child. Scion is called "3 + 1" seating area.

This is because the rear seats not symmetrically - on the right is larger than that on the left. The idea is, the front can proceed occupants, more room for one adult on the back, while a truncated seat behind the driver can accommodate a child.

Forbes.com: Million dollar dream cars

It is a creative use of space and the kind of thing we will probably see more like cars get inevitably smaller.

The Scion iQ is powered by a tiny four-cylinder engine produced around 90 hp. As if to separate issues around security, Scion is touting 10 airbags on the iQ, including one that covers the rear window, the company says is a first.

Scion's parent company sold Toyota iQ in other markets. It goes on sale in the United States this spring.
