GM spend $328 M Michigan pickup factory update

FLINT, Michigan - General Motors spends $ 328 million to upgrade a factory in Flint, Michigan, where it will build the next generation of full size pickups.

The investment pay for equipment, build the new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks, which are soon due in showrooms in 2013.

The investment is to create part of the $2 billion GM issues or to keep 4,000 jobs in eight States in the next 18 months.

At the Flint assembly plant about 150 jobs adding, said Dana Rouse, Chairman of the United Auto Workers Union local in the negotiations.

The plants are rent also 750 laid-off auto workers for an additional layer. The shift is required to higher demand for heavy-duty versions of pickups. These trucks have to flourish, although recorded a total pickup demand has waned.

The Flint plant currently either 2047 people employed and made 115,000 trucks last year.

GM U.S. pickup truck sales rose 13 percent to June compared with the previous year on the same increase as the entire U.S. market.

GM would not say if it plans, a similar investment in other U.S. pickup truck in their work to make Fort Wayne, Indiana. Cathy Clegg, Vice President for the relations between the two sides of industry, said in Flint that the company, to announce further investments.

GM makes also pickups in Silao, Mexico.

Separately, GM will begin negotiations with the UAW to a new national contract on 27 July. Both sides said at the Flint announcement that want to work together, pretty numbers employees to keep still business costs in check.
