NHTSA: rear view camera requires vehicles by 2018 to have
Automakers now rearview cameras on all cars under 10,000 pounds must contain, the U.S. Department of transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) decided Monday.

"Safety is our highest priority, and we are committed to the protection of the most vulnerable victims of backover accidents-our children and seniors,", said US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in a press release.

The decision requires all vehicles manufactured on or after May 1, 2018, rear cameras have.

According to NHTSA there are every year an average 210 dead and 150,000 injuries due to backover accidents. Children are under 5 years of age, 21 per cent of deaths and adults are over 70 years old or older account for 26 percent.
