GM autonomous pod cars await the future

GM electric networked vehicle (EN-V) was an immediate hit, as it was, introduced last year for the first time the electrical, autonomous (no steering wheel!) Pod-like is car nothing if not futuristic and friendly-looking. It's like GM finally offered the Jetsons future us, which we all have been waiting for.GM denied that recent rumors that did it for the EN-V a production date set, but rest assured, it comes. We languages with Sam Abuelsamid GM high-technology communications team to retrieve information on, if we all pod drive are people.

The prototype vehicle that touring has expos, car shows and conventions, is not necessarily that the EN-V production will look like. The two wheels based on a platform of balancing Segway, has less ground clearance, may approach not drive in the rain or snow and not even the juice to make an entrance ramp. Abuelsamid explains that the production version the basic features - store small, advanced communication and recognition by vehicle to vehicle technology (and vehicle-infrastructure) communication, and, of course, one electric powertrain - but it will be especially "for the use of real practical,."

GM hopes, field trials begin in the next two to three years, but the vehicle probably is our current lack of precise GPS features not in production for about 10 to 15 years, mainly due to the. "A large part of the autonomous ability comes from GPS." "Our current accuracy maximum of three meters, not, is that really sufficient for reliable operation of autonomous," says Abuelsamid. "Over the next ten years or so, new GPS satellites, [they] will put up to improve precision and reliability." "We hope gets improved, but in the meantime, we can learn much."

Once the EN-V for the production is willing, could it used in any number of places - gated communities, universities and megacities, where pollution and overcrowding are by the emission-free pod cars has mellowed. Abuelsamid also speculated that the EN-V might make an ideal addition for a car-sharing service that users could say both summon a vehicle with a Smartphone app and, the EN-V even parking when they are ready to use it.

GM rumored to be in talks with cities in China, South Africa and the United States about how to create an infrastructure for the vehicle, will cost about $ 10,000 when it goes on sale.
