LONDON, Sept 24 Reuters) – British carmaker Jaguar Land Rover on Tuesday said that it is planning a 100 million pound ($160 million) research and development open to create a centre in the United Kingdom in the year 2016 to be the next generation of vehicle technologies.
Based at Warwick University in Central England, innovation campus (NAIC) used national automotive industry to develop new technologies for electric cars and vehicles connections, among other things, said JLR.
The carmaker, owned by India's Tata Motors, said that around 1,000 scientists and engineers would work in the middle. Some 200 JLR researchers and engineers are already located at Warwick University.
JLR is the lead partner in the project and the rest from the Tata Motors European technical centre, Warwick manufacturing group and the Government of higher education funding Council invested £ 50 million in the project.
"This joint research programmes will use the best of UK engineering innovation and with the additional features that you expect, the NAIC gives us the number and selection of new, fresh innovative ideas we patent, and drive to produce in the future significantly increase", said JLRs head of research of Antony Harper.
Construction of the new Center is to begin in September of next year.
